Hominy Grill is one the most widely popular restaurants near Midtown. They feature fresh, local ingredients, and make most of their food from scratch. They have delicious biscuits, and use local free range eggs, and local seafood. The Grits Lady sign, which is painted on the side of the building, is a well-known Charleston landmark. They're located on the corner of Rutledge and Cannon, in a three story building built in 1897. The restaurant is located on the ground floor, which once housed a barbershop. They kept the old fashioned barbershop poles, the original wood floors, and the original pounded tin ceiling. The also have outdoor dining, which is fenced from the street. They serve outstanding Southern food, with a twist, for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and brunch on Saturday and Sunday. The prices are reasonable, and it is definitely worth the wait (they're almost always busy). Labels: About the Neighborhood, Cannonborough/ Elliotborough, Dining
